Go Ask Alice - a book review by Nicole

Held
By: Edeet Ravel

Imagine if you were stuck in a tiny warehouse for months on end! Well, that's exactly what happens to Chloe. She is the main character of the book, "Held", by Edeet Ravel.

Chloe and her best friend, Angie, go on vacation to the Greek Katikies as youth volunteers and something goes terribly wrong! When the two friends get in a fight Chloe decides to go on a day trip by herself. Little did she know that on this day she was going to get captured and be kept captive by a group that decided to keep her for a prisoner exchange.

Terrible thoughts flow though Chloe's head as she arrives at her destination. She has no idea what will happen to her or who these people are! She is in a state of shock and is scared of every little sound in the warehouse where she is kept. The only comforting thing she finds is the time when her captor comes to visit her. Chloe finds him mysterious and intriguing. He doesn't reveal anything to her, not even his name! This captor takes care for Chloe when she is sick and shows her affection, but is it all an act? Chloe, young and naïve, finds herself speaking without thinking and letting her emotions control her! Little does she know that her mysterious captor has various tricks up his sleeve!

Chloe used to be an all star gymnast and pro athlete, but now while she is stuck in this warehouse,  she has no contact with the outside world! No Internet, phone or iPods! All she has are some books, a mat for practicing gymnastics and a tennis ball for throwing at a wall!

I really enjoyed the book and I think you would too! I give the book 4 stars out of 5. I think that the author could have made the book more exciting by including more action to make it more captivating. I found that the book got a little boring sometimes. Overall, I think it a fantastic book! I would recommend it to kids grade seven and up because of mature content. This book is great for people who love mystery!

Will Chloe go insane from being cooped up like an animal and not knowing what is going on, or, will her friends and family save her and get her out?  Read to find out...
