Thank you to the students at Acadia Junior High School for putting together this fantastic set of book trailers for the MYRCA 2014 selections.
Things are already busy here in the HGI Library. We're all excited about starting a new school year.
On May 2, 2013, about 30 students from Henry G. Izatt Middle School had an opportunity to attend a workshop with Greg Chomichuk, a graphic novel artist, in the school library.
During the workshop, Greg explained the power of using images and words together, and how graphic novels are created. Students had the opportunity to create some art work of their own, drawing characters and giving them life through both visual imagery and written word.
The workshop was part of a larger graphic novel study program in which the students were participating. Using the graphic novel kits that were purchased in partnership with the Winnipeg Public library via a $1,500 grant from the Winnipeg Foundation, students read and discussed graphic novels in a literature circle format. The kits (containing 10 books each) will be available for sign out through the public library in the near future. Titles available in kits of 10 include: Smile, Twilight, The Hobbit, Cardboard, Bone, and 7 Generations: A Plains Cree Saga.
HGI Library is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair during Tri-Conferences in March. Dropping by and purchasing books from the book fair allows the school library to earn a percentage of the sales back so we can continue to add to our collection.
Book fair hours will be as follows:
March 14th, 2013
Open for students between 8:15 am and 3:25 pm
Open for everyone between 3:35 and 9:15 pm
March 15th, 2013
Open for everyone between 8:15 am and 4:15 pm.
We hope to see you there!
