Let's just get this straight - although critics say otherwise, Divergent is not the same as The Hunger Games. Having read both series, I can safely tell you that while the outline may look the same, the plot is completely different.
How the outline looks to most people: Young heroine fights against society's idea of perfect and falls in love along the way. Overall that's true, but that's the same general outline of most popular fiction. Divergent has two people in love, Hunger Games has a love triangle. Divergent has factions that you can choose to belong too, Hunger Games you are stuck in the district you were born in. Divergent displays the mental strength of the characters vs the physical strength in Hunger Games. There are too many other differences to even list between the two series, and I hope that critics claims will not prevent you from enjoying both series to their full extent. -Anna- HGI Library is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair during Tri-Conferences in March. We're all excited about starting a new school year. On May 2, 2013, about 30 students from Henry G. Izatt Middle School had an opportunity to attend a workshop with Greg Chomichuk, a graphic novel artist, in the school library. During the workshop, Greg explained the power of using images and words together, and how graphic novels are created. Students had the opportunity to create some art work of their own, drawing characters and giving them life through both visual imagery and written word. The workshop was part of a larger graphic novel study program in which the students were participating. Using the graphic novel kits that were purchased in partnership with the Winnipeg Public library via a $1,500 grant from the Winnipeg Foundation, students read and discussed graphic novels in a literature circle format. The kits (containing 10 books each) will be available for sign out through the public library in the near future. Titles available in kits of 10 include: Smile, Twilight, The Hobbit, Cardboard, Bone, and 7 Generations: A Plains Cree Saga.
